I could use superlatives like Wow! Incredible! or Awesome! to describe Fina Estampa and they would all fit nicely. However, I am not given to use those terms as they seem to have lost their uniqueness in today's lazy use of superlatives. Instead, I'll say that, if my Guatemalan grandma were still alive, I would bring her here and she would say that the Chicken estofado tasted like hers. And that is, in my book, a sign of excellence. It would seal in my mind that Fina Estampa is one of the best hidden gems in the San Fernando Valley. (Why isn't the new L.A. Times food critic writing about places like this!?)

It is unpretentious, and unremarkable in its cozy location in a strip mall nestled between Subway and The Habit. But this belies the wonderful flavors and service you will find. It is not fast food, although it does a good job in camouflaging  itself among the fast food joints.

Believe me it is light years away from that mentality and sensibility. The flavors of the simplest dish is a well orchestrated symphony of Umami and delectable notes of the Peruvian spice mix known for its bouquet and mouthfeel (my mouth is salivating as I am writing this).  My selfish side says not to post this as I am afraid I won't be able to get a table next time I go there but their hard work and reasonable prices deserve full tables all the time. Don't you deserve a good meal too?

Went with my family, so we were a party of 7. Smaller place, but we still were comfortable.

The staff was friendly and did a good job of keeping our drinks filled.

I ordered lomo saltado, the steak was very tender and the sauce was very savory and flavorful. The fries were smaller than I prefer but still were good. My wife ordered the skirt steak with an egg and it was cooked very well, with what seemed to be the same sauce as the lomo. Everyone really enjoyed their meal. My 18 year old son had never had Peruvian food and he love the lomo saltado!

The kids meals were very generous and the kids seemed to be happy with them.

I will be back for sure to try some of their other offerings, the fish looked really good.

We went on a Friday night at 530pm. It wasn't busy yet. But the sun was shining through and the shade wasn't thick enough to block the heat. I was wearing a skort and my legs were sweaty on the seat yuck. There was a fancy fan blowing but later on our eyes were hurting from the onion cooking in the kitchen. Such a small space. There were seating outside too.

My hubby and I shared their lomo saltado.  Was not too crazy about the fries that were mixed in the dish though. So weird. But the meat and sauce were delish. We ordered another cup of steamed rice and it was $3 . Ay yay! We tried their tamale and it was good.  I was shamelessly eating up on their pickled onions. Strong on the sour side. But fresh tasting

Our friends ordered and loved their tallarin lomo saltado. They also ordered the papa rellena. A bit pricey for one big fried meat potato ball. Loved the crunchiness though. I would love to order this next time. Just wish they come with two pieces at least. Gosh. They also loved the pickled onions which they generously add on their dishes hehe. They also ordered the camarones ceviche. They loved the lemony flavor. But the shrimp wasn't cut in pieces. They could not eat the sweet potato that came with it. The dish didn't come with chips to help eat the ceviche hmmm. I won't be ordering that for myself.

They waited for us to ask for the check. I feel they don't mind if people linger and chat the night away haha. They didn't even bug us about dessert but the waiters were nice. I like the Spiritual sayings all over their walls. They're shamelessly proclaiming that they're God believers. Amen!!!

I will come back for sure. Idk when. But I will.

Glad we found this restaurant to dine before going to a movie in the Winnetka theater center.

For a Saturday night, it was pretty empty, most likely because they were about an hour from closing. The waiters were very welcoming and attentive. They immediately gave us water with lemon and freshly baked bread, then took our order. Eddie was very energetic and detailed about their hot sauce spice levels.

I ordered Tallarín Saltado con Camarones which is linguini pasta sautéed with tomatoes and onions and shrimp. My husband ordered Lomo Saltado Mixto which is filet mignon, chicken breast, and shrimp stir fried with onions, tomatoes, French fries and cilantro, served with white rice. Both dishes not only looked amazing but they were savory and delicious!

I can honestly say this was an Authentic Peruvian dinner. I feel like this place is one of the best Peruvian spots in the Valley.

Parking is very easy to find as the lot is huge. You won't have a hard time. Trust me you won't be disappointed with the food quality.

I'm actually upset I've been working in this area for 2 months and just now going here. My first time having Peruvian food and this place set the bar high. I ordered the Lomo Saltado with added shrimp and it was delicious!!! So flavorful and big portions. Because the food is so good, it's expensive as well so get ready to spend about $20 pp. They have daily specials but you have to call or go in to see what the special is. The lomo is filet mignon. I can't wait to try other dishes.
